                                  Tonight's Homework:

2/22/12:  Oops, Mr. Cusack sent the wrong pages home yesterday.  His class has a math worksheet about measurement.
G practice and G is for...
Please make sure you child writes the upper case G with careful attention to the last line.  If he/she curves the point then it looks like a 6.

Every night - Sight Word Ring
Have your child practice these words every night.  As your child gets faster and more accurate you can take off the words he/she has mastered.  Keep them in a separate stack and review them as needed.  Focus the effort on reading the words automatically, or within a second.

                                  TIPS TO KEEP IT FRESH!
                                  Play a guessing game.
Use the guessing game format to play Hangman.
Sort the words by... number of letters, first letter, etc.

                                  Today's Talking Points:
Use these questions to help discuss what happened at school today.

                                  1. Who is trying to gobble Gertie's treats?
                                  2. Ask your child to tell you a word that begins with a consonant blend like p-l, s-l, f-l, s-t, etc.
                                  3. Who lives in the White House?
                                  4. What can we use to measure length?
                                  Homework Tip:
Giving incentives can be helpful to jump start good work habits, but remember that it is best to teach your child to value the good feeling of completing a job well.  If he/she only does work for treats then he/she will not learn to stay motivated independently... and you will go broke.  So, keep the incentives small, and try using rewards that don't cost money, such as 10 minutes playing a special game, or a walk to the park.  As your child becomes consistent you can make the reward more challenging.  For example, if you do your homework well two nights in a row, then you get to...  Eventually it has to be a whole week and before you know it you won't need the reward system.
